Late this afternoon Marist became aware that the individual who was at large earlier today was sighted on our campus and went into the cemetery behind the school. We also want to thank the Chicago Police Department, the Alsip Police Department, and the Marist security staff for their professionalism and care. While our students were never in danger, we always err on the side of caution to ensure their safety and we appreciate your support. We want to sincerely thank our students, parents, and faculty and staff for their patience, concern, and cooperation during this process. Just after 1:00pm Marist was given an all-clear by the Alsip Police Department and a complete dismissal was made.Īll remaining scheduled activities will take place. The school was placed on lockdown and dismissal was delayed.ĭuring the course of the lockdown Marist Principal Larry Tucker sent three all-calls to parents, emailed faculty and staff, and made announcements over the PA system to communicate updates. At the direction of the Chicago Police Department, Marist started a dismissal process at approximately 12:40pm.
Marist conferred with the Chicago Police Department, who responded to campus, and our internal security staff. At approximately 11:30am on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, Marist High School was informed by the Alsip Police Department that a suspect was at large in the area near the school.
